I feel like I start every blog post the same. In mentioning that, I have officially started a blog post differently. Success! Now, back to business.
This was my first time meeting Naomi, though we have many mutual friends, and she pretty much grew up with my hubby, from elementary straight through to graduation. He assured me she is “a sweetheart” and “a really nice girl”. He was definitely right. Naomi was easy to get along with and her boys are extremely adorable. Naomi asked to have our session at Redwood Park, since it is near her childhood home, and this park is like home to me as well, so I was definitely up for it. It is showcasing some gorgeous changing leaves right now, so I knew we would have some good spots. I try and change up the spots I use when I come here so that every family does have a bit of a different session, but there are definitely some “old faithful” spots that I usually hit.
So here’s our formula for this session: gorgeous mom + adorable boys + energy = fun, candid, fresh portraits!

What gorgeous weather we were blessed with in the first half of October. I’m worried it has passed now, but at least we got some really amazing sessions done while we had it. One of the sessions being this beautiful family. I love that Erica really values my work, and continues to return to me to show that. She really VALUES photography, and having beautiful images on her walls of her family and kids. She recognizes that these are times you can not live over again, and to relish in them and cherish the moments when her girls are little. Craig is happy to play along I think!
Craig is bracing himself for when his gorgeous girls grow older…these girls have the most beautiful eyes. And Layne sure does have a mind of her own. Unless you bribe her with apples, of course. Green ones. Blake is “sober” as Erica describes her. She told me it would be difficult to get a smile out of her. I think Blake proved her wrong. Although she was quite serious at times, a little peekaboo definitely worked out some smiles.
I have to laugh at how we must all look to the people passing us by as well try to coax a 2 year old to sit still and not look afraid of her sister, and to get her sister to smile.
We met up to accomplish Blake’s 6 month photos, but we also tried to get a few of the family and of big sister too.
We had our session in Blackie Spit Park. It was a beautiful hour, and I love this place because it’s accessible but rugged looking. Some of these shots are pure magic!

I love this family THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS much!!! I want to hang out with them all the time! They are so fun, so laid back, so easy to get along with. The kids are all AWESOME! Boys are generally difficult to photograph. When they are younger than 6, they are just too busy. When they are older than 6, they are just not interested. But these boys, wow, they are so fun, well behaved, attentive, smiley, just awesome. The hubbies aren’t bad either! Steve and I were able to talk cameras and lighting. Sean was awesome for getting the kids to smile, he is just full of energy. And the three sisters remind me of my sisters and me. We had a lot of fun getting these shots on Crescent Beach, at Blackie Spit Park, right near Courtney’s house. I’m glad we chose that location, and we caught some great light in the evening.
The rest of the session is ready to go guys!
