On the morning of May 28th, 2011, I was so excited to wake up to find a clearing sky, and the promise of some warm, mild weather for the day. It was Jessica and Mark’s wedding day. This was my first wedding of the season (though I had previously helped out second shooting the weekend before, to get my wedding juices flowing), and I was so excited to see what Jessica and Mark had in store for us.

These two lovebirds are definitely part of the alternative crowd. They like to do things differently, and with a little bit of “rock” involved. Both avid Canuck fans, they managed to find a tasteful way to include the Vancouver Canucks in their Rock n Roll themed wedding. They were going for a casual, intimate and wicked affair, with a late ceremony at 7pm and a cocktail reception immediately to follow at the Steamworks Uber Lounge.

I started out with Jessica at her hotel getting ready, her hairstylist and makeup artist were there with her. I loved all Jessica’s jewelry and her garter was also custom made, all the info will be at the bottom of this blog post for anyone interested in where she got her details. Jessica also did her own flowers and added a little personal touch to each bouquet with the bridesmaid’s initials stamped in silver medallions accompanied with a tiny crystal. So cute!

Jessica finished up her hair and makeup, and slipped into her cocktail length dress. Just another way that Jessica planned to do it differently! Best of all was the hanger Jessica had bought off Etsy for her dress. That is one thing most brides overlook! A pretty hanger makes dress photos MUCH better, and usually I am using a hotel wooden hanger, or if I’m not that lucky all I have to work with is some plastic thing! This was definitely a detail I was excited about.

We were off to pick up Mark and the boys, and sneak in a “first look” which was incredibly emotional and fun!

Then we did some party and couples portraits before the ceremony. We had been running behind schedule up to this point, and luckily Jessica had alloted a large amount of time before the ceremony so we were able to deal with the lag in schedule easily and still get all our portraits done.

The wedding party was really fun and easy to work with! Thanks for being so awesome guys (and gals!).

Some shots of Jessica and Mark separate and together to polish off portrait time!

Then off to the ceremony which took place in front of this amazing huge window overlooking Vancouver Harbour. They of course got married on a stage fully outfitted with instruments.

The cocktail reception followed immediately afterwards, with rock n roll and touches of class all over the Steamworks Uberlounge setting. My favorite was the guest book guitar. What an awesome piece to have in their home forever! They also had custom coasters made with one of their engagement session images (done by me last year).

To top off the night, Jessica and Mark didn’t have a first dance, they had a first performance. Absolutely wicked! They rocked it out for their guests who were pleasantly surprised! Way to go guys, what a unique way to say it, they were the band named: Just Married!!!

I had so much fun at this wedding. It was different, fun, relaxed, and yet everything a wedding should be. I am proud to say I was a part of it all!! I hope these two are enjoying their Maui vacation, but able to check in to see their images as soon as they are up! Now for a list of all the good stuff!
